Thanks to many creative individuals, a lot of conventional and even some advanced technology can be created from ordinary stuff and on shoestring budgets.
Once in the realm of science fiction, scenario of downloading object plans, feeding them into garage fabrication facility and some time later, assembling an object from newly made parts, is becoming more and more feasible from the technological standpoint with these new micro manufacturing tools. The progress in this direction should continue to accelerate since the energy+time cost of transporting information is inherently lower than the cost of transporting matter.
