Contraptor 1.5 release, versioning/source control

So what's been cooking over the last few weeks?

  • added documentation files to the source as *.readme.htm pages (Drupal book print versions). This introduces a conflict though - what is the actual documentation source - the project how-tos on this site or HTML pages on SVN? I think the trend is to keep and update the documentation online, because that's where people tend to look for the most recent stuff (judging by the way Reprap project is structured), but on the other hand, I think that managing documentation revisions in a wiki separately from the core file revisions creates a tempting excuse for them to diverge. So my current assumption is that the most recent documentation source would be the project how-tos on the site, whereas documentation source for older releases would be the HTML files in SVN. Perhaps this is all wrong and I should simply use a wiki. We'll see..
  • created BoM files with quantities, part numbers, vendors, pricing; added them to the source
  • created 10 examples with video, building basic assemblies such as belt and leadscrew drives, intended as a tutorial for the set; added them to the source
  • decided to do a versioned release and dropped (for now) a couple of features that needed extra work on documentation - specifically, ACME nut/leadscrew.
  • Behold Contraptor 1.5 release! http://contraptor.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/contraptor/tags/contraptor-...
  • Sketched features for the next release (some or all):
  1. Teflon strip instead of angle -> cheaper
  2. Reprap Stepper Motor Driver v2.3 vs v1.x -> cheaper
  3. More ways to make perforated angle -> easier
  4. ACME nut/leadscrew -> better accuracy

Thanks to Riley for the versioning, source control and other suggestions.

I'm going back to work on the mini-router, which has been sitting half-assembled for several weeks now.
